The North Texas Mean Green and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles meet in college basketball action from Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Saturday evening.

Javion Hamlet leads the Mean Green in scoring with 12.9 PPG and 4.3 APG while Jordan Reese has 10.7 PPG with 4 RPG and Zachary Simmons has 10.1 PPG with a team-high 6.2 RPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for North Texas up to this point in the season. Thomas Bell also has 9.4 PPG and 5.6 RPG for the Mean Green this season. As a team, North Texas is averaging 72.5 PPG on 48.7% shooting from the field, 37.4% from 3-point range and 75.3% from the foul line while allowing 61.9 PPG on 41.3% shooting from the field and 31.8% from 3-point range this season.
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles will look to get some revenge after losing to North Texas last time out. Tyler Stevenson leads the Golden Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 14.5 PPG and 7.2 RPG while Tae Hardy has 10.1 PPG with 2.7 APG as the only other double-digit scorer for Southern Miss up to this point in the season. Jaron Pierre Jr. also has 9.7 PPG for Southern Miss this year. North Texas is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Saturday games while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. Southern Miss is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 games as a home underdog. The favorite is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
I could understand why Southern Miss as a home dog is worth a look with revenge on their minds, but North Texas just shut the Eagles down on Friday and I don’t really see much different happening here. I think North Texas will tighten up on the defensive end once again and get the job done in stifling USM, so I’ll lay the points with North Texas on the road in this spot.
