The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Virginia Cavaliers meet Saturday in college basketball action from John Paul Jones Arena.

North Carolina comes in here at 12-6 so far. The Tar Heels are 4-1 in their last five games and coming off a win over Duke. As for Virginia, they’re 14-3 this year. The Cavaliers have won three straight and are coming off a win over Georgia Tech. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

North Carolina came into the year at a shaky 5-4 with losses to Texas, Iowa, NC State and Georgia Tech. Since then the Tar Heels have gone 7-2 with wins over Notre Dame, Miami, Syracuse, Wake Forest, NC State, Pittsburgh and Duke.

In the 91-87 win over Duke last weekend, North Carolina’s Caleb Love put up 25 points with seven assists and two rebounds. Armando Bacot added 16 points with six rebounds and one assist, and Garrison Brooks, Leaky Black and Kerwin Walton each notched 12 points.

Over on the Virginia side, it’s been a pretty smooth run as the Cavaliers haven’t notched consecutive losses all season. Since their last loss to Virginia Tech on January 30, Virginia has taken out NC State, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech in consecutive wins.

In the 57-49 win over Georgia Tech on Wednesday, Virginia’s Trey Murphy led the scoring with 18 points, five rebounds and one assist. Kihei Clark posted 14 points with six assists and three boards, and Sam Hauser put up eight points with five assists and 10 rebounds.

The Cavaliers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight at home versus a team with a winning road record and 37-17 ATS in their last 54 as a home underdog. The over is 6-0 in Virginia’s last six home games and 9-4 in the last 13 Saturday games.

Meanwhile, the Tar Heels are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five as an underdog. The over is 5-2 in UNC’s last seven overall and the under is 23-10 in their last 33 road games.

PICK: I like the Tar Heels here. You could probably make a good case either way, though; this should be an excellent matchup. In any case, North Carolina has notched 75 or more points in six of their last seven games, going 5-2 in that stretch. It’s not going to be easy hanging points on Virginia, but I think North Carolina has enough offensive gas to keep the pace and get in there on a cover. Should be a fun one to watch.
