Tennessee Tech began the year on an 0-9 skid before a win over Southeast Missouri State. Four more losses followed before a win over Tennessee State, then came a six-game losing streak into February. After a win over Eastern Illinois the Eagles fell to Eastern Kentucky in their last game.
In the 83-72 loss to Eastern Kentucky on Monday, Tennessee Tech’s Jr. Clay put up 23 points with two assists and one rebound. Damaria Franklin added 16 points with six rebounds and two assists, and Austin Harvell put up 11 points with five boards.
Over on the Tennessee State side, they haven’t had much luck this year either. The Tigers went just 2-10 in their first 12 games before a win over Eastern Illinois. Since then Tennessee State has lost six more games, most recently to Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.
In the 93-73 loss to Eastern Kentucky, Tennessee State’s Shakem Johnson doubled up on 16 points with 10 rebounds and two assists. Mark Freeman posted 14 points with nine assists and eight rebounds, and Ravel Moody added 13 points with five rebounds and two assists.
The Tigers are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall. Tennessee State is 0-4 ATS in their last four Thursday games and the under is 24-7 in their last 31 overall.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven road games and 7-2 ATS in their last nine Thursday games. Tennessee Tech is 4-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss and the under is 4-0 in their last four road games.
PICK: I’m going to take the Eagles. There’s not a whole lot to get excited about in this matchup, but it should be a competitive game. The Eagles took a 74-71 win the last time these teams met up. Both sides shot well but Tennessee Tech had a massive edge on rebounds 41-26 and assists 17-9. If the Eagles can control their turnovers better here (they had 20 last time), I like them on a cover.
