The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet Saturday in college basketball action from Cassell Coliseum.
Wake Forest enters this one at 6-12 so far. The Demon Deacons have lost four straight, most recently to Clemson. As for Virginia Tech, they’re 14-5 this year. The Hokies are 1-2 over their last three games and coming off a loss to Georgia Tech. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Wake Forest came out of the gate well this season with a 3-0 run, then promptly lost their next six games. The Deacons are 3-6 since then, taking losses to NC State, Notre Dame, Florida State, Duke, NC State again, then Clemson during that time.
In the 60-39 blowout loss to Clemson, Wake Forest’s top scorer was Daivien Williamson with 16 points, two rebounds and one assist. The only other Deacons player in double-figures there was Isaiah Mucius with 13 points and three boards.
Over on the Virginia Tech side, they came into this season on a 11-2 run with losses to Penn State and Louisville. Since then the Hokies are 3-3 in their last six. They’ve lost to Syracuse, Pittsburgh and Georgia Tech in those outings.
In the 69-53 loss to Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech’s Keve Aluma doubled up with 12 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Nahiem Alleyne added 12 points and one board, and Tyrece Radford chipped in 11 points, two assists and three rebounds.
The Hokies are 6-2 ATS in their last eight home games and 6-13 ATS in their last 19 after a straight-up loss. Virginia Tech is 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and the under is 6-2 in their last eight overall.
Meanwhile, the Deacons are 5-1 ATS in their last six Saturday games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven road games. The over is 5-1 in Wake Forest’s last six Saturday games and 12-5-1 in their last 18 after an ATS loss.
PICK: I’m going to take Virginia Tech here. The Hokies are coming off a dud offensive game versus Georgia Tech, with just 53 points. Wake Forest had a bad game in their last outing as well, notching just 39 points versus Syracuse. The Deacons have struggled on offense lately, with 62 or fewer in each of their last three. This may be a sloppy game, but I think Virginia Tech can pull out the cover.
