The Charlotte 49ers and the UTEP Miners meet Sunday in college basketball action from Don Haskins Center.
Charlotte enters this one at 9-12 overall. As for UTEP, they’re currently 11-10 on the year. This will be a rematch of Saturday’s game featuring these same teams. In that one, UTEP managed a 23-point win. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.
Charlotte has a couple of three-game win streaks to their credit this season, but overall the 49ers haven’t been able to sustain momentum for long. In the four games heading into this weekend, Charlotte had a losing streak against Middle Tennessee and Old Dominion, twice apiece.
In Saturday’s matchup against UTEP, Charlotte fell behind 35-18 in the first half and things got worse from there in a 70-47 blowout loss. Tops in scoring for the 49ers was Jahmir Young with 12 points and three boards.
Over on the UTEP side, they started out the year at 6-3 but then lost five of their next six games. After that came a 3-2 run for the Miners with losses to UAB (twice) alongside victories over UTSA and Florida International (twice).
In Saturday’s big victory, UTEP jumped out to a huge lead and kept it going in a 35-29 second half. Leading the way for the Miners were Souley Boum and Efe Odigie, each with 15 points and a combined nine rebounds.
The Miners are 2-5 ATS in their last seven Sunday games and 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. The under is 9-4 in UTEP’s last 13 home games and 7-3 in the last 10 as a home favorite.
Meanwhile, the 49ers are 21-48 ATS in their last 69 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven Sunday games. The over is 17-8 in Charlotte’s last 25 road games and 5-2-1 in their last eight Sunday games.
PICK: I’m going to stick with UTEP in this one. The Miners had a couple of good offensive outings against Florida International in mid-February, notching a combined 152 points in that pair. Saturday’s game was a pretty solid outing offensively for the Miners, and they were able to cruise after the first half. I like another strong effort here.
