UNC Asheville vs Longwood College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 3/1/21

The Longwood Lancers and the UNC Asheville Bulldogs meet Monday in college basketball action from Kimmel Arena. 

Longwood enters this Big South Tournament matchup at 11-15 so far. The Lancers are 5-1 in their last six and coming off a loss to Hampton. As for UNC Asheville, they’re 10-9 this season. Longwood opened the year on an ugly 3-13 skid, but things have been much better since then. The Lancers are 7-2 in their last nine games, taking out High Point, Presbyterian, Gardner-Webb, Hampton and Charleston Southern. Longwood lost to Hampton in their last game, however. 

In the 74-68 loss to Hampton on Wednesday, Longwood’s DeShaun Wade led the team on 15 points with one rebound and one assist. Juan Munoz added 13 points with four assists and three rebounds, and both Heru Bligen and Zac Watson added 10 points apiece. 

Over on the UNC Asheville side, they went 4-6 through their first 10 games, but then hit a four-game win streak versus Hampton, Charleston Southern and Gardner-Webb. Since then the Bulldogs are 2-3 with wins over Radford and Winthrop. 

In the 57-55 win over Winthrop on January 29, UNC Asheville’s Trent Stephney was the lead scorer on 13 points with four rebounds and two assists. LJ Thorpe added 12 points with four boards and three assists, and Evan Clayborne had 10 boards with nine points. 

UNC Asheville is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven Monday games. The under is 4-0 in the Bulldogs’ last four Monday games and the over is 4-1 in the last five home games. 

Meanwhile, the Lancers are 1-4 ATS in their last five as a road underdog and 5-1 ATS in their last six overall. The under is 6-1 in Longwood’s last seven road games and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with Longwood here. The last time these teams met up, UNC Asheville got a win 80-73 and the Lancers took one 65-55 the next day. Longwood has posted some solid points totals lately with 70 or more in three of their last five. Considering UNC Asheville hasn’t been on the court in a while anything could happen in this one. That said, I still like the Lancers better on a cover.
