The Indiana Hoosiers and the Purdue Boilermakers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Mackey Arena.
Indiana enters this one at 12-13 so far. The Hoosiers have lost four straight, most recently to Michigan State. As for Purdue, they’re 17-8 this year. Indiana hasn’t been able to string together wins very well this season, and they’re yet to win more than two consecutive outings. The Hoosiers are on an ugly 0-4 skid right now, falling to Michigan State, Rutgers, Michigan and Michigan State again in that quartet.
In the 64-58 loss to Michigan State on Tuesday, Indiana’s Rob Phinisee was the only player in double-figures with 16 points, six rebounds and four assists. Trayce Jackson-Davis added nine points with seven rebounds and one assist as well.
Over on the Purdue side, their year started out at a rocky 7-5, but they’ve done well since then with a 10-3 run over their last 13 outings. In the last four, the Boilermakers have beaten Michigan State, Nebraska, Penn State and Wisconsin in succession.
In the 73-69 win over Wisconsin on Tuesday, Purdue’s Zach Edey posted 21 points with seven rebounds and one assist, and Jaden Ivey added 18 points with three boards and two assists. Aaron Wheeler chipped in 11 points with six rebounds as well.
The Boilermakers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 4-1 ATS in the last five after a straight-up win. Purdue is 4-0 ATS in their last four overall and the over is 6-2 in their last eight Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Hoosiers are 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four overall. The under is 4-1-1 in Indiana’s last six Saturday games and the over is 9-4-1 in their last 14 overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Purdue. The last time these teams met up, the Boilermakers secured an 81-69 victory back on January 14. Purdue shot 53.2 percent from the field in that one, out-rebounding the Hoosiers 38-30 as well. I expect Indiana to put up a good fight in this rematch, but with Purdue rolling along right now I like them better on a potential cover.
