Texas Southern vs Alcorn State College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 3/11/21

The Alcorn State Braves and the Texas Southern Tigers meet Thursday in college basketball action from Bartow Arena. 

Alcorn State enters this SWAC Tournament matchup at 6-12 so far. The Braves have lost three straight, most recently to Prairie View A&M. As for Texas Southern, they’re 13-8 this year. Alcorn State began their year on a bad skid at 0-6. Since then the Braves have played better, going .500 over their next 12 games. That said, Alcorn State has lost their last three outings to Southern, Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M. 

In the 81-69 loss to Prairie View A&M on Saturday, Alcorn State’s Myson Lowe led the team with 14 points and two assists. Byron Joshua added 13 points with three rebounds and two assists, and Anthony Fairley had 12 points with six boards. 

Over on the Texas Southern side, their season didn’t start out so hot either at just 2-7. The Tigers have lost just one game since then, however. They’ve beaten Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Alcorn State and Southern in their last quartet. 

In the 80-74 win over Southern on Saturday, Texas Southern’s Michael Weathers put up 28 points with five rebounds and six assists. John Walker added 18 points with six boards, and Jordan Karl Nicholas had 13 points with nine rebounds. 

The Tigers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six neutral-site games and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS win. Texas Southern is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Thursday games and the over is 20-8-1 in their last 29 overall. 

Meanwhile, the Braves are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six overall and 3-0-1 ATS in their last four versus a team with a winning straight-up record. The under is 4-0 in Alcorn State’s last four neutral-site games and the over is 5-1 in the last six Thursday games. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with Texas Southern. This one could get interesting, though. The last time these teams met up was March 4, and the Tigers eked out an 80-78 victory. Both teams shot over 40.0 percent, and Texas Southern had a slim rebound advantage 38-36. This game should be a close, high-scoring affair as well, but I like the Tigers a little better on the cover.
