Jackson State vs Texas Southern College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 2/15/21

The Texas Southern Tigers and the Jackson State Tigers meet Monday in college basketball action from Williams Assembly Center. 

Texas Southern enters this one at 7-7 so far. The Tigers are riding a five-game win streak and took out Grambling State in their last game. As for Jackson State, they’re 6-5 this year. Texas Southern’s year started off pretty shaky at 2-7. The Tigers had wins versus Wyoming and Le Tourneau during that time. Since then however, it’s been wins over AR-Pine Bluff, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, UTRGV and Grambling for Texas Southern. 

In the 75-73 win over Grambling, Texas Southern’s Jordan Gilliam led the team on 18 points with nine assists and three boards. Justin Hopkins added 15 points and six rebounds while Joirdon Karl Nicholas doubled up on 13 points and 14 boards. 

Over on the Jackson State side, they opened up on a bad skid as well, starting the season at 0-5. Since then it’s been six straight wins for the Tigers versus Alabama State, Grambling, MS Valley State, AR-Pine Bluff, Alcorn State and Southern. 

In the 57-53 win over Southern last week, Jackson State’s Jayveous McKinnis topped the team on 15 points and 15 rebounds. Both Jonas James and Tristan Jarrett chipped in 11 points with a combined two assists and eight rebounds as well. 

Jackson State is 6-2 ATS in the last eight at home and 6-1 ATS in the last seven overall. The under is 19-7 in the Tigers’ last 26 Monday games and 12-5 in their last 17 games as a home favorite.
Meanwhile, Texas Southern is 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven overall. The over is 15-6-1 in the Tigers’ last 22 overall and 5-2 in their last seven Monday games. 

PICK: I’m sticking with Texas Southern. Both these teams have been playing well lately, so this should be an interesting matchup. Texas Southern has hit 72 or more points in four of their last six games and seem to have gotten into a nice stride on offense. Jackson State has also scored well here and there but they’ve been at 63 or below in two of their last three outings. I like this one to be close for most of the game before Texas Southern pulls away late.
