The SMU Mustangs are set to battle the Boise State Broncos on Thursday college basketball’s NIT First Round at the Comerica Center.

The SMU Mustangs look for a win after splitting their last 10 games. The SMU Mustangs are averaging 74.3 points on 45.7 percent shooting and allowing 66.6 points on 39.5 percent shooting. Kendric Davis is averaging 18.8 points and four rebounds while Feron Hunt is averaging 11.1 points and 0.6 assists. Emmanuel Bandoumel is dishing 1.4 assists and Ethan Chargois is grabbing 5.5 rebounds. The SMU Mustangs are shooting 34 percent from beyond the arc and 73.8 percent from the free throw line. The SMU Mustangs are allowing 33.5 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 33.7 rebounds per game.

The Boise State Broncos look for a win here to snap a four-game losing streak. The Boise State Broncos are averaging 76 points on 45.3 percent shooting and allowing 65.4 points on 42.3 percent shooting. Derrick Alston Jr. is averaging 17.4 points and 2.3 assists while Abu Kigab is averaging 11.8 points and 5.4 rebounds. Marcus Shaver Jr. is the third double-digit scorer and RayJ Dennis is grabbing 3.2 rebounds. The Boise State Broncos are shooting 34 percent from beyond the arc and 74.3 percent from the free throw line. The Boise State Broncos are allowing 31.9 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 33.2 rebounds per game.

The Mustangs are 16-35-1 ATS in their last 52 neutral site games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Broncos are 13-4 ATS in their last 17 games following a straight up loss and 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games following a ATS loss. The under is 4-1 in Mustangs last 5 overall. The over is 4-0 in Broncos last 4 Thursday games.

The SMU Mustangs could of easily won the AAC Tournament, but I think their poor performance against Cincinnati had a lot to do with them not playing games and experiencing such a long layoff. SMU is a really good basketball team led by a quality defense that’s top-20 in field goal percentage allowed. The Boise State Broncos held their own in the MWC for the most part, but they ended the season with four straight losses, and they’re losing their last five games by an average of 4.4 points. I have more confidence in SMU in this spot. I’ll take the point.
