The Michigan Wolverines and Baylor Bears meet Saturday in the women’s college basketball NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 at the Alamodome.

The Michigan Wolverines look for another win after beating Florida Gulf Coast and Tennessee in their first two rounds. The Michigan Wolverines are averaging 75.3 points on 44.9 percent shooting and allowing 64.2 points on 38.9 percent shooting. Nazem Hillmon is averaging 24.3 points and 11.6 rebounds while Leigha Brown is averaging 17.9 points and 4.4 rebounds. Akienreh Johnson is the third double-digit scorer and Hailey Brown is grabbing 3.9 rebounds. The Michigan Wolverines are shooting 30.1 percent from beyond the arc and 74.4 percent from the free throw line. The Michigan Wolverines are allowing 31.1 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 42.7 rebounds per game.

The Baylor Bears look for another win after beating Jackson State and Virginia Tech in their first two rounds. The Baylor Bears are averaging 82.6 points on 48.7 percent shooting and allowing 54.2 points on 31.7 percent shooting. NaLyssa Smith is averaging 18 points and nine rebounds while Moon Ursin is averaging 12.3 points and 3.8 assists. DiJonai Carrington is the third double-digit scorer and Queen Egbo is dishing 0.9 assists. The Baylor Bears are shooting 33.5 percent from beyond the arc and 71.5 percent from the free throw line. The Baylor Bears are allowing 26.6 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 49.1 rebounds per game.

You have to give the Michigan Wolverines credit for getting to this point and they put on a defensive clinic in the second round to upset Tennessee. Michigan can’t be overlooked. However, the Bear Bears are several steps above in this matchup and are possibly the best defensive team left in the tournament. In fact, coach Kim Mulkey is on record saying this may be the best defensive team she’s ever coached, and she’s a three-time champion who has led some impressive teams in the past. Baylor is the best team in the country in terms of field goal percentage allowed. This is going to be tough sledding for Michigan.

Give me Baylor in a comfortable victory, as the Bears make another Elite Eight under coach Mulkey.
