The Texas Longhorns and Maryland Terrapins meet Sunday in the women’s college basketball NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 at the Alamodome.

The Texas Longhorns look for another win after beating Bradley and UCLA in their first two rounds. The Texas Longhorns are averaging 70.3 points on 40.8 percent shooting and allowing 62.7 points on 42.4 percent shooting. Charli Collier is averaging 19.7 points and 11.6 rebounds while Celeste Taylor is averaging 12.4 points and 4.6 rebounds. Joanne Allen-Taylor is the third double-digit scorer and Audrey Warren is grabbing five rebounds. The Texas Longhorns are shooting 32.4 percent from beyond the arc and 70.5 percent from the free throw line. The Texas Longhorns are allowing 31 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 37.7 rebounds per game.

The Maryland Terrapins look for another win after beating Mount St. Mary’s and Alabama in their first two rounds. The Maryland Terrapins are averaging 91.8 points on 49.9 percent shooting and allowing 69.1 points on 40.7 percent shooting. Ashley Owusu is averaging 18.1 points and 5.7 rebounds while Diamond Miller is averaging 17.1 points and 5.8 rebounds. Chloe Bibby is the third double-digit scorer and Katie Benzan is grabbing 2.5 rebounds. The Maryland Terrapins are shooting 40.6 percent from beyond the arc and 79 percent from the free throw line. The Maryland Terrapins are allowing 32.9 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 41.3 rebounds per game.

The Texas Longhorns are not a team to overlook, as their star players stepped up in the first two rounds and they have an experienced coach in Vic Schaefer who led multiple teams to deep tournament runs at Mississippi State. Texas is a more dangerous team than some would give credit. However, the Maryland Terrapins are on an absolute tear right now offensively, scoring a combined 198 points in their first two rounds and 83 or more points in seven straight games overall. In a win over Alabama, Maryland shot 61.8 percent from the field and put the game away in the first quarter when it scored 30 points. I’m not stepping in front of the Terps and this offensive juggernaut.

Maryland makes its seventh Elite Eight appearance since 2006.
