The South Carolina Gamecocks and Stanford Cardinal meet Friday in the women’s college basketball NCAA Tournament Final Four at the Alamodome.

The South Carolina Gamecocks are coming off a win over Texas and look to make their second final appearance in school history and first since 2017. The South Carolina Gamecocks are averaging 75.8 points on 44.1 percent shooting and allowing 57.9 points on 36.2 percent shooting. Zia Cooke is averaging 15.6 points and 3.1 rebounds while Aliyah Boston is averaging 13.8 points and 11.4 rebounds. Destanni Henderson is the third double-digit scorer and Victoria Saxton is grabbing 5.9 rebounds. The South Carolina Gamecocks are shooting 33.2 percent from beyond the arc and 68.3 percent from the free throw line. The South Carolina Gamecocks are allowing 26.9 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 47.2 rebounds per game.

The Stanford Cardinal just beat Louisville and now look to make their first final appearance since 2010. The Stanford Cardinal are averaging 78.9 points on 46.8 percent shooting and allowing 53.4 points on 32.9 percent shooting. Kiana Williams is averaging 14.5 points and 2.1 rebounds while Haley Jones is averaging 12.7 points and 7.5 rebounds. Lexie Hull is the third double-digit scorer and Cameron Brink is grabbing 6.7 rebounds. The Stanford Cardinal are shooting 38.3 percent from beyond the arc and 70.6 percent from the free throw line. The Stanford Cardinal are allowing 27.7 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 43.1 rebounds per game.

Many would argue that the Stanford Cardinal are the best team in the country and the favorites to win the tournament, even above UConn. However, Stanford looked shaky its last time out and had to rebound from a 12-point deficit against Louisville, it’s larger comeback in each of the last four seasons. The South Carolina Gamecocks aren’t flashy offensively and don’t have a player who can take over a game for long stretches on that side of the floor, but they’re elite defensively and they’re allowing an average of 48.5 points this tournament. South Carolina just held Texas to 34 points on 23 percent shooting from the field. South Carolina took UConn to overtime on the road back in February, so this club has shown it can hang toe to toe with the top tier opponents.

Give me the Gamecocks and the points.
