The Cleveland State Vikings and the BYU Cougars meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Marriott Center. Cleveland State managed to post a nice campaign last year, collecting the Horizon League Tournament title and earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament. As for BYU, they went 20-7 overall and got into the national tournament as well. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Cleveland State logged a successful season in 2020-21, posting a 19-8 overall record with a 16-4 mark in the Horizon League games. The Vikings opened up at 0-3 but quickly thereafter found their footing, never losing consecutive games the rest of the way.

The Horizon League Tournament featured three big wins for Cleveland State. They took out Purdue Fort Wayne (3OT), Milwaukee and Oakland on the way to the title. Things went sour in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament, however; the Vikings lost 87-56 to Houston.

Over on the BYU side, they didn’t quite reach 2019-20 heights last year but still finished 20-7 overall and 10-3 in West Coast Conference play. The Cougars landed in second place with that effort, just behind the perfect 15-0 run from Gonzaga.

Despite several games being postponed or cancelled outright last season, the Cougars managed a fairly even keel throughout. BYU beat Pepperdine in OT in the WCC Tournament, but then fell to eventual champions Gonzaga. The First Round of the NCAA Tournament turned into a 73-62 loss to UCLA.

The Vikings are 17-7-1 ATS in their last 25 overall and 15-39 ATS in their last 54 Tuesday games. The over is 4-1 in Cleveland State’s last five Tuesday games.

Meanwhile, the Cougars are 1-4-2 ATS in their last seven at home and the under is 7-1 in their last eight Tuesday games.

PICK: I’m still going with BYU. The Cougars are an interesting team on paper, and they seem poised for another strong run in the WCC. Alex Barcello is back in the mix, and should continue to do great things on the court alongside newcomer Te’Jon Lucas. The team is loaded with shooting talent, and many pundits are pegging BYU to be one of the top offensive teams in the country this year. There are a few question marks on defense but the Cougars should have plenty of depth to manage. I like BYU to kick things off with a strong cover here.
