The Bryant Bulldogs and the Rhode Island Rams meet Friday in college basketball action from Ryan Center. Bryant comes into this one at 1-0 after a blowout win over Fisher College in their opener. Rhode Island won their first game as well, taking out Boston U by nine points. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Bryant is coming off a 15-7 overall record last season, going 10-4 in Northeast Conference play. The Bulldogs finished in second place in the conference standings, behind only Wagner. Bryant made it into the CBI, where they fell to Coastal Carolina in the Quarterfinals.

The Bulldogs didn’t have much trouble with Fisher College in their opener this week. Bryant jumped out to a 54-31 halftime lead and never looked back during a 122-54 drubbing. Leading scorer was Charles Pride with 25 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Over on the Rhode Island side, they posted a 10-15 overall record in 2020-21 with a 7-10 mark in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams landed just four spots out of the basement in the standings. In the A-10 Tournament, Rhode Island lost in the Second Round to Dayton.

In their season opener, the Rams put up a 36-27 edge on Boston University at halftime, then sustained it during the second half for a 71-62 win. Ishmael Leggett led the way on 18 points with three boards, and Ishmael El-Amin put up 13 points with two assists and one board.

Rhode Island is 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall and 0-7-1 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win. The Rams are 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are 10-22-1 ATS in their last 33 road games versus a team with a winning home record and the under is 6-2-1 in their last nine Friday games.

PICK: I’m probably sticking with the Bulldogs here, but staying away. It’s tough to measure Bryant’s team strength after just one game, especially considering they were facing a lesser opponent. Bryant went off against Fisher, shooting 57.6 percent from the field and collecting a whopping 70 rebounds with 33 assists. Fisher shot just 24.1 percent and made only four of their 28 3-point tries. The Bulldogs are likely going to come back down to earth here in a closer matchup, but I still think they can get into a cover.
