The Broncos went on to a seven-point victory. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Stanford is coming off a 14-13 overall record last year with a 10-10 finish in Pac 12 play. The Cardinal finished around the middle of the pack in the standings, and lost to California 76-58 in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament.

The Cardinal got a nice win over Tarleton State in their first outing of the year, taking the game 62-50. Stanford’s top scorer was Harrison Ingram with 16 points, seven rebounds and one assist. Jaiden Delaire added 14 points with six rebounds and three assists as well.

Over on the Santa Clara side, they finished 12-8 overall last year and 4-5 in WCC play. The Broncos landed in sixth place in the conference standings with that effort. Santa Clara would win a couple of games in the conference tourney before falling to Pepperdine.

Santa Clara did a solid job against CSU Fullerton in their opener. The Broncos played it tight the whole way and eventually prevailed 84-77. Santa Clara’s top score was Josip Vrankic, who went off for 29 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals.

Santa Clara is 1-4-1 ATS in their last six at home and 2-5 ATS in the last seven after a straight-up win. The Broncos are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 Friday games.

Meanwhile, the Cardinal is 0-4 ATS in their last four overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five on Friday. The under is 6-0 in Stanford’s last six Friday games.

PICK: I’m going to try Santa Clara. The Broncos had some bumps in the road in their opener versus CSU Fullerton, but the 56.7 percent field goal rate helped alleviate a lot of the tumbles. Santa Clara was out-rebounded 34-24, but moved the ball well on 19 assists to CSUF’s 11.

As for Stanford, they went into the break with a two-point deficit in their opener but turned it on in the second half. The Cardinal came up with 36 rebounds and shot 42.6 percent from the floor. Still, it was something of a tepid effort and I think Santa Clara can get in there on a cover if they play well.
