The Grambling State Tigers and the Texas Tech Red Raiders meet Friday in college basketball action from United Supermarkets Arena. Grambling is coming off a loss in their opener, falling to Grand Canyon by 21 points. As for the Raiders, they managed to beat North Florida by 15 points in their first outing of the year. Grambling State is coming off a .500 overall record last year at 11-11 and a 9-6 mark in SWAC play. The Tigers finished fourth in the conference standings. In the SWAC Tournament, Grambling State beat Southern in OT before a 75-63 loss to Prairie View A&M.

Grambling got off to an awful start in the first half against Grand Canyon, trailing 40-18 at the break. The Tigers couldn’t’ get much closer and ultimately fell 74-53. Tra’Michael Moton and Prince Moss each scored 10 points with a combined nine rebounds.

Over on the Texas Tech side, they put up an 18-11 overall record last season and went 9-8 in Big 12 play. That result left the Raiders in sixth place in a tough conference. Texas Tech lost to Texas in the Big 12 Tournament but managed a win over Utah State in the national tourney.

Texas Tech got off to a solid start against North Florida in their opener. The Red Raiders scored 50 points in the first half on the way to an 89-74 win. Bryson Williams was the lead scorer with his 22 points and seven boards, while Kevin Obanor added 17 points and seven rebounds.

Texas Tech is 1-4 ATS in thier last five overall and 4-1 ATS in their last five at home. The Raiders are 4-1 ATS in their last five Friday games.

Meanwhile, Grambling is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall and 5-2 ATS in their last seven as an underdog. The Tigers are 7-2 ATS in their last nine on Friday.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Texas Tech. The Raiders played a nice all-round game in their opener, posting 51.5 percent on field goals, 44 rebounds, 20 assists and 11 steals. The 26.7 percent on 3-pointers and 68.2 percent on free throws could use some work, but all in all it was a good effort.

As for Grambling State, they shot just 36.5 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 43-30 by Grand Canyon this week. The Tigers are a better team than that, but I don’t think they’ll bounce back well enough to cover here.
