The Grambling State Tigers and the New Mexico Lobos meet Monday in college basketball action from the Pit. Grambling State is sitting at 0-2 this year following losses to Grand Canyon and Texas Tech. As for the Lobos, they’re 1-1 after their first pair and coming off a loss to Colorado. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Grambling State matched up against Grand Canyon in their opener back on Tuesday. The Tigers scored just 18 points in the first half on the way to a 74-53 loss. Tra’Michael Moton and Prince Moss each scored a team-high 10 points with a combined four assists and nine boards.

Game two didn’t go very well for Grambling either. The Tigers were outscored 44-31 in each half, resulting in an 88-62 defeat. The only double-digit scorer on the team was Danya Kingsby who came up with 22 points and one assist in 30 minutes.

Over on the New Mexico side, they had to fight off Florida Atlantic for the whole game in their opener but ended up coming out on top 99-92. Jaelen House was the top scorer with 30 points, six assists and three rebounds.

In game two, the Lobos took their first loss. New Mexico carried a 42-36 deficit into halftime and didn’t get any closer in an 87-76 loss. House led the way again with 22 points, four assists and one rebound, while Jamal Mashburn Jr. added 20 points and five boards.

The Lobos are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 after a straight-up loss and 17-8-1 ATS in their last 26 Monday games. New Mexico is 2-7 ATS in the last nine home games as well.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss. The over is 5-1 in Grambling’s last six overall as well.

PICK: I’m going to stick with New Mexico. The Lobos got destroyed on the boards in their last outing versus a pretty good Colorado team, notching a 47-27 rebounding deficit. That was the key stat, as New Mexico shot reasonably well (41.9 percent) from the floor and led the turnover battle 13-18.

As for Grambling, they were out-rebounded by Texas Tech 41-23 so they’ve struggled with that stat as well. I like the Tigers to put up a better effort in this one, but I think New Mexico is a better potential cover option.
