Wake Forest vs Charleston Southern College Basketball Picks, Odds, Predictions 11/17/2021

The Charleston Southern Buccaneers and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons meet Wednesday in college basketball action from LJVM Coliseum. Charleston Southern is 1-1 on the young season and coming off a loss to Ole Miss. As for Wake Forest, they’re 2-0 thus far. The Deacons beat Western Carolina in their last game. Charleston Southern kicked off their year against Johnson & Wales University. The Buccaneers scored 65 points in the second half alone on the way to a blowout 118-71 win. Five different Charleston Southern players led the team on 13 points apiece. 

Game two against Mississippi didn’t go as well. The Buccaneers were down 37-24 at halftime and coughed up 56 more points from there in a 93-68 defeat. Deontaye Buskey led the team on 17 points with seven rebounds and one assist. 

Over on the Wake Forest side, their first matchup versus William & Mary went well. The Deacons were up 46-18 by halftime and cruised from there in a 77-59 win. Aldondes Williams topped the team with 22 points, three rebounds and three assists. 

Last Friday against Western Carolina in game two the Deacons didn’t have such an easy time but still won. Wake Forest had a slim 38-36 halftime edge but surged from there in an 87-75 win. Williams again led the way with his 32 points, four assists and eight rebounds. 

The Deacons are 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall. Wake is 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Bucs are 9-20 ATS in their last 29 overall and 7-2 ATS in the last nine road games. Charleston Southern is  7-2 ATS in their last nine as a road underdog. 

PICK: I’m going to take Wake Forest in this one. The Deacons need to play a complete game to bag this cover, though. Wake had a relatively slim rebounding edge 37-33 over WCU in their last game, and trailed 12-9 in team assists against a team they probably should have rolled over from the start. The Deacons got it together in the second half though, to their credit. 

As for Charleston Southern, they shot just 36.9 percent from the floor against Ole Miss but did a pretty good job on the boards with 39 rebounds. The Bucs are likely going to have to shoot mid-40s to keep the pace in this one, and I’m not sure they’ll be able to do it for a full game.
