Ole Miss posted a win in their opener this year over New Orleans, taking it 82-61 on the strength of 43 first-half points. In game two against Charleston Southern, the Rebels had the offense working again with a 93-68 victory.

In their Thursday matchup against Marquette, Ole Miss had a 36-31 lead at halftime but couldn’t hang on in an eventual 78-72 loss. Nysier Brooks and Jarkel Joiner each posted 13 points, combining for four assists and 13 rebounds as well.

Over on the Elon side, they lost their first game of the season against Florida 74-61, but then bounced back with wins in their next pair. Those victories came 107-62 over Randolph and 89-72 against Bluefield.

On Thursday versus West Virginia, Elon fell behind 44-37 at halftime and couldn’t get any closer in an 87-68 loss. Torrence Watson was the top scorer on 15 points, four assists and seven rebounds.

PICK: I’m probably going to try Ole Miss in this one. The Rebels have had a solid offensive run in their first three games. Ole Miss posted 72 points on Thursday but just couldn’t keep up in a high-scoring outing. Still, with 46.8 percent shooting and 37 rebounds, the Rebels seem to be clicking on multiple levels.

As for Elon, they shot just 36.4 percent from the floor on Thursday with 17 turnovers. The Phoenix didn’t do too badly on rebounds (33) and assists (13), but coughed up too many points to keep pace.
