The San Jose State Spartans and the Texas Longhorns meet Saturday in college basketball action from Frank Erwin Center. San Jose State has lost their last two games, most recently against Cal Baptist. As for Texas, they’re sitting at 2-1 so far following a win over Northern Colorado in their last outing. San Jose State came out of the gate against Cal State Fullerton. The Spartans scored 45 in the first half and were able to hang on for a 78-76 win. In game two San Jose State took their first defeat of the year, giving up 47 points in the second half and losing to Stanford 76-62.

The Spartans trailed California Baptist 34-31 at halftime in their last game. San Jose State couldn’t catch up in an eventual 67-66 loss. Leading scorer Ibrahima Diallo provided 16 points with 10 rebounds and a steal.

Over on the Texas side, they kicked off their year with a bang against Houston Baptist in a 92-48 victory. In game two, the Longhorns matched up against Gonzaga. Texas couldn’t stop the Bulldogs in an 86-74 loss.

Texas got back on the W train against Northern Colorado in their last outing. The Longhorns held a 37-15 advantage at the break and raised to a 62-49 result. Tre Mitchell finished on a team-high 16 points with seven rebounds and one assist.

Texas is 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 at home and 1-4 ATS in their last six Saturday games. The over is 9-3 in the Longhorns’ last 12 after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Spartans are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 after an ATS win and 10-26-2 ATS in their last 38 road games. SJSU is 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Texas. That’s a thick spread though, so I’m staying away. The Longhorns had some trouble matching up against Gonzaga in their loss, but otherwise they’ve done well this year. Texas shot 41.7 percent in a team-wide effort during the last win, collecting 36 rebounds and 16 assists along the way.

As for San Jose State, they shot well against Cal Baptist in their loss (45.2 percent) but had a 32-31 rebounding edge and stayed with it pretty much the whole game. I don’t think the Spartans have the offense to keep up against Texas, though.
