The Kent State Golden Flashes and the James Madison Dukes meet Monday in college basketball action from Community School of Naples. Kent State sits at 1-1 so far. The Flashes beat Oberlin College in their last game. As for James Madison, they’re 4-0 this year and beat George Mason their last time out. Kent State began their year against Xavier. The Flashes had a 36-31 halftime lead in that one but couldn’t hold on in a 73-59 result. Leading scorer Sincere Carry posted 18 points with three rebounds and four assists.

In game two, the Flashes got a win to get back to .500 on the young season. Kent State had a 51-16 halftime edge on Oberlin and cruised to an 84-38 result. Carry and Malique Jacobs led the way on 14 points with a combined seven boards.

Over on the James Madison side, they’ve had a few close calls so far but their record remains intact. The opener was a 135-40 win over Carlow; game two was 58-53 over Old Dominion. Game three was another close one 79-78 over Eastern Kentucky.

On Friday the Dukes got another victory, this time 67-64 over George Mason. JMU was outscored 35-33 in the second half but still hung on. Takal Molson topped the team with his 19 points and five rebounds.

JMU is 8-1 ATS in their last nine after an ATS win and 12-2 ATS in their last 14 after a straight-up win. The under is 8-3 in the Dukes’ last 11 overall.
Meanwhile, the Flashes are 0-5-1 ATS in their last six neutral-site games and 2-5 in their last seven on Monday. Kent is 1-6 ATS in the last four overall.

PICK: I’m going to stay with James Madison. The Dukes shot a solid 40 percent from the floor in their last outing against George Mason, along with 39 rebounds and 13 team assists. The 20 turnovers and 19 fouls didn’t help, but JMU still pulled out a nice win.

As for Kent State, this is going to be a much tougher matchup than their last outing and should tell us a lot about where the Flashes stand. I don’t think they’ll be strong enough to cover here.
