The Loyola Marymount Lions and the SMU Mustangs meet Monday in college basketball action from UNF Arena. LMU is sitting at 2-2 overall this year. The Lions are coming off a Sunday blowout loss to Florida State. As for SMU, they’re 3-2 so far and fresh off a loss to Missouri. LMU opened the year versus Chattanooga. Despite a lead at halftime, the Lions lost 75-64. Loyola Marymount put up wins in their next two outings however, taking out AZ Christian 74-67 and Little Rock 82-63.

In the Sunday matchup versus Florida State, LMU got off to a bad start with a 32-17 deficit in the first half. Things didn’t get much better from there in a 73-45 loss. Joe Quintana led the way in scoring with his 12 points for the Lions.

Over on the SMU side, they opened up the season with a solid win 86-62 over McNeese State, then lost to Oregon in game two. The Mustangs bounced back with wins over Northwest State and Southeastern LA in the next pair.

SMU took on Missouri in their Sunday matchup. The Mustangs gave up a big lead in the second half and had to go to overtime. SMU ended up losing 80-75. Kendric Davis led the team on 29 points and four rebounds.

PICK: I’m sticking with SMU. The Mustangs will need to bounce back from giving up a 29-18 halftime lead to Missouri on Sunday, though. The good news is that SMU shot 42.1 percent for the game and kept up a pretty steady pace. There’s plenty to clean up, though.

As for LMU, they had a bad game on Sunday with 36.4 percent from the field, seven assists and 24 turnovers. FSU shot 50.9 percent on the other side and only got faster as the game went along. I like a livelier performance from LMU here, though.
