Appalachian State vs Akron 11/23/2021 College Basketball Picks, Best Bets and Odds

The Akron Zips and the Appalachian State Mountaineers meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Germain Arena. Akron is sitting at 2-2 so far and coming off a loss to Fordham on Monday. Akron gave Ohio State a scare in their opener, nearly pulling off the upset in a 67-66 defeat. The Zips managed wins in their next two outings, taking out Point Park 102-46 and Wheeling Jesuit 99-38 to move to 2-1 on the year. 

In Monday’s matchup against Fordham, the Zips took their first blowout loss of the year. Akron posted just 19 points in the first half on the way to a 63-43 defeat. Leading scorer Enrique Freeman put up nine points with 11 rebounds. 

Over on the Appalachian State side, they lost their season opener against Iona 65-53, but then took consecutive wins over East Tennessee State and William Pence. The Mountaineers fell to Charlotte 67-66 in game four. 

In the Monday matchup against Delaware on Monday, Appalachian State was outscored 40-33 in the second half in a rough 75-68 loss. Adrian Delph put up 39 points in 37 minutes to lead the team, and Justin Forrest added 10 points. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with Appalachian State. The Mountaineers fell victim to Delaware’s crazy 61 percent shooting on Monday, and weren’t great on the boards with a 22-18 rebounding deficit. Still, App State put up 44 percent shooting themselves and only had 11 turnovers.
As for Akron, they’re coming off a rough game versus Fordham. The Zips shot just 31.4 percent from the field with a 1-for-18 (5.6 percent) mark from 3-point range. Akron went just 52.6 percent from the line and had only three team assists. It was a forgettable outing to say the least.
