The Western Illinois Leathernecks and the Eastern Michigan Eagles meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Convocation Center. Western Illinois is sitting on a 4-1 record so far this year and fresh off a win over Northern Kentucky. As for the Eagles, they’re 1-3 so far and lost to Michigan State in their last outing. Western Illinois started out the year on a three-game win streak, beating Nebraska 75-74, then Culver-Stockton 91-69 and Iowa Wesleyan 97-71. The Leathernecks recorded their first loss of the year 84-80 to DePaul in game four.

Back on Monday, the Leathernecks were able to get back into the win column with a 69-67 result over Northern Kentucky. Western Illinois overcame a 37-23 halftime deficit on the way. Leading scorer Will Caries put up 17 points with two rebounds.

Over on the Eastern Michigan side, they got close to Indiana in their opener but couldn’t pull it off in a 68-62 loss. The Eagles beat Illinois State 103-98 in game two, but then fell to Northern Kentucky 74-73 in a tough one.

Eastern Michigan recorded another loss on Saturday, this time 83-59 in a rough matchup versus Michigan State. The Eagles were outscored 49-31 in the first half alone. Noah Farrakhan led the team on 14 points with six rebounds.

The Eagles are 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall and the over is 4-0 in their last four at home. The over is 16-5 in EMU’s last 21 overall.

Meanwhile, the Leathernecks are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 road games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games. Western Illinois is 10-2 ATS in their last 12 overall.

PICK: I’m going to try Eastern Michigan. The Eagles weren’t able to keep up on the scoreboard with Michigan State in their last outing, shooing 37.1 percent from the field with 23 turnovers. That said, EMU was solid on the boards with a 43-41 advantage, and hit 8-of-17 from 3-point range.

As for Western Illinois, they didn’t shoot great (39.7 percent) against NKU, but the team was strong in rebounding (38) and assists (17). This should be a pretty fun overall matchup, and I think EMU can eke into a cover.
