UNC Wilmington posted a 3-2 record over their first five games. The losses came in the opener to Illinois State 68-63 and in game three against Pittsburgh 59-51. Otherwise the Seahawks beat Guilford, Coastal Carolina and Delaware State in that stretch.

In Wednesday’s matchup against Southern Miss, the Seahawks trailed 37-23 at halftime and couldn’t gain any ground from there in an 80-66 loss. Lead scorer Jaylen Sims put up 16 points with six rebounds and three assists.

Over on the Montana side, they began their season with a 72-27 blowout win over Dickinson State. losses to Mississippi State and North Dakota followed after that. Game four was a 68-47 win over Omaha that got Montana back to .500 on the year.

On Wednesday in the UC San Diego matchup, the Grizzlies had a mild 32-29 edge at the break but pulled away in the second for a 71-61 victory. Leading the way for Montana was Robby Beasley with 19 points and four rebounds.

The Grizzlies are 5-1 ATS in their last six Thursday games and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 at home. The over is 17-7 in Montana’s last 24 Thursday games.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks are 17-37-4 ATS in their last 58 road games and 5-19-3 ATS in their last 27 as a road underdog. The under is 5-2 in their last seven road games versus a team with a home winning percentage of more than .600.

PICK: I’m probably going to stick with Montana. The Grizzlies didn’t necessarily have a dominant all-around game on Wednesday despite shooting 45.5 percent from the field. Montana was out-rebounded 38-24 but the careful ball management (seven turnovers) helped secure the win anyway.

As for UNC Wilmington, they had a rough offensive outing on Wednesday. The Seahawks shot just 34.4 percent from the field with 10-of-40 (25 percent) from 3-point range. I don’t see UNCW bouncing back well enough to cover here.
