The Maryland Terrapins and the Richmond Spiders meet Thursday in college basketball action from Baha Mar Convention Center. Maryland is 4-1 so far this year and coming off a win over Hofstra. As for Richmond, they’re 3-2 this season and took out Hofstra in their last game as well. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Maryland got off to a nice start with three straight wins this year. Those came 83-69 over Quinnipiac, 71-64 versus George Washington and 68-57 against Vermont. The Terrapins took their first loss in game four, 71-66 against George Mason.

Maryland got back into the win column last Friday versus Hofstra. The Terrapins had a slim 34-31 edge at halftime and hung on for the 69-67 result. Eric Ayala led the team with his 14 points and five rebounds.

Over on the Richmond side, they went 2-2 over their first four games. After an opener win over NC Central 70-60, the Spiders lost to Utah State 85-74. Another win came 94-78 versus Georgia State, then an 73-70 loss to Drake.

The Spiders got back into the win column against Hofstra on Monday. Richmond was down 44-40 at the break but surged from there toward an 81-68 win. Tyler Burton was tops on 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

The Spiders are 3-0-1 ATS in their last four after an ATS win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall. Richmond is 3-1-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win.

Meanwhile, the Terrapins are 1-5 ATS in their last six after a straight-up win and 2-7 ATS in the last nine Thursday games. Maryland is 1-5 ATS in the last six overall.

PICK: Going with Maryland. I was going to try Richmond in this one but the line isn’t quite there. The Terrapins shot an okay 41.7 percent against Hofstra in their last game, with a 43-27 advantage in rebounding (13-2) on the offensive side. It was a good bounce-back from a tepid performance against a tricky George Mason team.

As for the Spiders, they’ve scored pretty well over their first five games with at least 70 points in each. Provided Richmond can keep up that offensive pace I think they can get into a cover/win here. Should be a competitive game for the most part.
