The Morehead State Eagles and the Arkansas State Red Wolves meet Friday in college basketball action from ASU Convocation Center. Morehead State enters this one at 2-3 so far. The Eagles lost to Mississippi State in their last game. As for Arkansas State, they’re 3-1 this year and fresh off a win over Southeast Missouri State. Morehead State began their year with a pair of losses. The Eagles fell to Auburn 77-54 in the opener then 85-71 to UAB. Two wins followed for Morehead State: 82-57 over Kentucky Christian and 84-59 over Transylvania.
Back on Sunday against Mississippi State, Morehead kept up in the first half but posted just 18 points from there in a 66-46 defeat. The team’s only double-digit scorer was Tray Hollowell with 10 points and two boards.
Over on the Arkansas State side, they didn’t have trouble with Harding during an 81-55 win in their opener. The Red Wolves were blown out by Illinois in the next game, then bounced back with a win over Central Baptist.
The Red Wolves matched up against Southeast Missouri State in their last game. Arkansas State put up 39 points in the first half on the way to a 72-60 win. Norchad Omier led the team on 18 points, 12 rebounds and three assists.
AR State is 7-1 ATS in their last eight at home and 7-2 ATS in their last nine after an ATS win. The Red Wolves are 6-1 ATS in their last seven Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four overall. Morehead State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss.
PICK: I’m going to stick with AR State here. The Red Wolves had a pretty solid outing against SEMO in their last game, posting 44.1 percent shooting (and 42.1 from 3-point range) with a 45-32 rebounding advantage.
As for Morehead State, they were overwhelmed by Mississippi State in the second half of their last game, shooting just 33.3 percent from the field with 21 rebounds. I think the Eagles can keep up here initially as well before the Red Wolves get a cover.
