The South Alabama Jaguars and the San Diego Toreros meet in college basketball action from the Orleans Arena on Thursday afternoon.

The South Alabama Jaguars will try to build off of back-to-back wins over subdivision opponents. Charles Manning Jr. leads the Jaguars in scoring and assists with 15.2 PPG and 3.2 APG while Jay Jay Chandler has 14.4 PPg and 4.2 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for South Alabama up to this point in the season. Javon Franklin has 9.8 PPG with 7.4 RPG and Diante Smith has 9.6 PPG while Marshall Kearing has 8 RPG as well this season. As a team, South Alabama is averaging 80.4 PPG on 44.8% shooting from the field, 29.3% from three and 66.7% from the foul line while allowing 55.2 PPG on 35.8% shooting from the field and 24.8% from three this season.

The San Diego Toreros will be looking to bounce back from a 57-55 loss to Cal State-Fullerton last time out. Jase Townsend leads the Toreros in scoring with 13.8 PPG along with 3.4 APG to also lead USD in assists while Joey Calcaterra has 11.8 PPG and Marcellus Earlington has 11.6 PPG with 4.4 RPG. Terrell Brown has 10 PPg and a team-high 9.6 RPG to make up the group of double-digit scorers for San Diego this season. As a team, San Diego is averaging 75.4 PPG on 46.5% shooting from the field, 48.1% from three and 70.6% from the foul line while allowing 60 PPG on 39.2% shooting from the field and 30.1% from three this season.

South Alabama is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a win while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 Thursday games. San Diego is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 neutral site games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall while the under is 19-7-1 in their last 27 Thursday games.

I find myself going back and forth, looking for a case to make for either side here, but I’m leaning towards San Diego here. I think if you take the Jaguars and the points here, you’re almost banking on the Jaguars to win this game and all three of their wins this season have come against subdivision opponents. San Diego’s had the tougher road to this point and have come out pretty well I must say, so give me the Toreros here.
