The Michigan State Spartans and the Baylor Bears Meet Friday in college basketball action from Imperial Arena. Michigan State has won five straight following their victory over UConn on Thursday. Michigan State had a tough matchup against Kansas in their opener, falling 87-74. The Spartans got it together afterward, taking out Western Michigan, Butler, Eastern Michigan and Loyola IL in their next four. 

On Thursday against UConn, the Spartans scored 32 points in each half on the way to a 64-60 victory. Leading scorer Gabe Brown put up 16 points with 10 rebounds, and Julius Marble added 15 points with four rebounds. 

Over on the Baylor side, they’re 6-0 so far on the season. The Bears have taken out Incarnate Word, Nicholls State, Central Arkansas, Stanford, Arizona State and VCU in succession over their first half-dozen outings.

In Thursday’s matchup versus VCU, Baylor had a slim two-point edge at halftime. The Bears got rolling better in the second half, posting a 40-34 edge there during the 69-61 win. Matthew Mayer led the team on 15 points, six rebounds and two assists. 

PICK: I’m probably going to try Michigan State in this one. The Spartans are coming off a gritty game against UConn, with each team shooting 35.9 percent from the field. Michigan State won the rebounding battle 48-42 and added 12 team assists. 

As for Baylor, they had a slow first half against VCU but recovered well enough to get the win. The Bears held the rebounding edge 42-33 but also had 18 turnovers. Friday’s game should be an interesting matchup for both sides.
