The Marshall Thundering Herd and the Indiana Hoosiers meet Saturday in college basketball action from Bloomington Assembly Hall. Marshall is sitting at 4-1 so far and took out Louisiana in their most recent appearance. As for Indiana, they’re rolling along at 5-0 and fresh off a blowout win over Jackson State. Marshall managed victories in their first pair this year, beating Wright State 96-88 and Milligan 80-58. The Thundering Herd took a tough loss 67-65 to Campbell in game three, but bounced back 80-66 over Jackson State in the next outing.
The Herd managed to beat Louisiana on Tuesday for their fourth win of the season. Marshall was down 47-42 at halftime but surged with 51 second-half points in a 93-79 result. Tavion Kinsey was the top scorer with 21 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Over on the Indiana side, it’s been smooth sailing through five games so far. The Hoosiers took out Eastern Michigan in their opener, then followed that up with wins over Northern Illinois, St. John’s and Louisiana.
Game five against Jackson State was another big win for the Hoosiers. Indiana held the Tigers to just 17 points in the first half and 18 more from there in a 70-35 blowout. Xavier Johnson topped the team on 14 points with seven boards.
The Herd are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games and 2-6-2 ATS in their last 10 overall. Marshall is 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Meanwhile, the Hoosiers are 0-5 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 overall. The under is 9-0 in Indiana’s last nine overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Indiana, so long as the line doesn’t get any thicker. The Hoosiers have had a few close calls so far, but nothing they haven’t been able to handle. Indiana was dominant versus an overmatched Jackson State team in their last outing, with 47.1 percent shooting and 44 rebounds.
As for Marshall, they’re coming off a solid effort against Louisiana despite getting out-rebounded 46-35. The Herd came up with 19 steals and shot 46.4 percent from the field in the win. I like Marshall to hang around in the first half before eventually falling behind in an Indiana cover here.
