The Saint Peter’s Peacocks and the Providence Friars meet Saturday in college basketball action from Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Saint Peter’s is sitting at 1-2 so far and coming off a win over LIU. As for Providence, they lost their first game of the year to Virginia on Tuesday. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Saint Peter’s took a couple of losses in their first pair of games this year. The opener was a 57-54 defeat by VCU. Game two wasn’t as close, this time 91-70 against Saint Joseph’s. A third game against Wagner was postponed.

In their last outing against LIU, the Peacocks finally got into the win column. Saint Peter’s had a 30-27 lead at the break and hung on for the 64-62 victory. Doug Edert led the team on 17 points with four rebounds.

Over on the Friars’ side, they got off to a nice start this year with five straight victories. Providence took out Fairfield 80-73, Sacred Heart 92-64, Wisconsin 63-58, New Hampshire 69-58 and Northwestern 77-72 in that run.

On Tuesday against Virginia, the Friars took their first loss of the year. Providence scored just 15 points in the first half on the way to a 58-40 result. Noah Horchler was tops with 14 points and seven rebounds for the Friars.

Providence is 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 5-0 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss. The under is 9-4 in the Friars’ last 13 at home.

Meanwhile, the Peacocks are 2-9-1 ATS in their last 12 road games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight overall. Saint Peter’s is 0-4 ATS in their last four Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Providence in this one. The Friars are going to need a good bounce-back here, though. Providence shot just 23.5 percent from the floor with 3-of-22 (13.6 percent) from 3-point range against Virginia, and saw their offense slow to a crawl in the loss. The good news is that the Friars took good care of the ball with just eight turnovers; they simply couldn’t get past the Cavs defense. This matchup will certainly be much more permissive, and I like Providence to get back to business during a cover.
