The Vermont Catamounts and the UNC Greensboro Spartans meet Saturday in college basketball action from Greensboro Coliseum. Vermont enters this one at 5-2 so far. The Catamounts are coming off a win over Appalachian State. As for UNC Greensboro, they’re 5-2 as well with a win over NC Wesleyan in their last appearance. Vermont started off the year with a 14-point win over Northern Iowa, but lost game two to Maryland. After wins versus Worchester Tech and Yale, the Catamounts lost to Oakland and then beat Evansville.

In their last outing versus Appalachian State, Vermont held a slim 31-29 edge at halftime and held on for a 65-63 win. Ben Shungu led the way on 17 points with four rebounds and two assists, and Ryan Davis added 14 points with seven rebounds.

Over on the UNC Greensboro side, they kicked off the year at 4-0 with victories over NC A&T, Northern Kentucky, Coppin State and Green Bay. The Spartans took close losses to UMass and FIU in their next pair.

The Spartans got back into the win column against NC Wesleyan on Wednesday. UNC Greensboro posted a 42-35 edge in the second half on the way to the 80-61 victory. Bas Leyte topped the team on 18 points with five rebounds in 20 minutes.

UNC Greensboro is 6-2 ATS in their last eight Saturday games and the under is 4-1 in the last five at home. The under is 4-1 in the Spartans’ last five as a favorite.

Meanwhile, Vermont is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five road games. The Catamounts are 2-5 ATS in their last seven Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to try Vermont in this one. The Catamounts posted a solid 43.1 percent shooting against Appalachian State in their last game, and held strong rebounding with a 28-28 effort. Vermont took care of the ball with only six turnovers but were tepid from 3-point range at 6-of-24.

As for UNCG, they’ve got some nice wins under their belt this year, but four of five of them have been by seven points or fewer. I like the Spartans to stay competitive in this one as well, with Vermont eking out a cover. Should be a fun matchup.
