The Troy Trojans and the Florida Gators meet Sunday in college basketball action from O’Connell Center. Troy is 4-2 so far this season and fresh off a win over Florida Atlantic. Troy went 2-2 over their first four games this year. The Trojans beat Carver 104-42, then lost to Butler 70-59 before beating Jacksonville State in OT 69-65. After a tight 74-72 loss to North Dakota, Troy beat TN-Martin 80-67.
Back on Monday against Florida Atlantic, the Trojans managed another win. Troy needed 41 second-half points and overtime to get the 83-78 victory. Duke Deen topped the team on 17 points with three rebounds, and Duke Miles had 16 points.
Over on the Gators’ side, it’s been smooth sailing so far with just one close game on the 5-0 run. Florida beat Elon 74-61 in their opener then Florida State 71-55. The next pair were wins 81-45 over Milwaukee and 80-60 over Cal.
The Gators played their tightest contest of the year so far against Ohio State. Florida was down 30-26 at the break, but after 45 second-half points they were able to pull off the 71-68 win. Phlandrous Fleming was the lead scorer on 19 points and two boards.
Florida is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Sunday games and 4-0 ATS in their last four at home. The Gators are 4-0 ATS in their last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and the over is 5-1 in their last six road games. The over is 4-0 in Troy’s last four overall.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Florida, despite the thick line. The Gators had some trouble dispatching a pesky Ohio State team in their last game, shooting just 36.7 percent from the floor with 4-of-14 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range. Florida had a slim 35-33 rebounding edge, with 16 of them coming on the offensive side.
As for Troy, they shot 43.9 percent against FAU in their last game, with a 46-36 rebounding deficit. I like the Trojans to hang around here for a while, but it should be Florida’s cover if they play well.
