The Hartford Hawks will travel to the Holmes Convocation Center to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers this Monday night in College Basketball action.

The Hartford Hawks dropped to 0-5 on the season after being defeated by the Merrimack Warriors, 75-60, this past Tuesday night. Hartford had no answers on the defensive end for Merrimack and could not fight back after the Warriors took a 54-39 lead with 8:44 left in the 2nd half. Hartford shot 45.8% from the field & 38.1% from beyond the arc while allowing Merrimack to shoot 50.0% from the field & 45.0% from beyond the arc. Hartford was outrebounded by Merrimack by a 33-21 margin and lost the turnover battle by a 11-10 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Hawks was Hunter Marks who had 14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assits, & 1 block.

On the season, Hartford is averaging 67.0 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field. The Hawks are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Hartford has been led by Hunter Marks (13.4 ppg, 3.6, 1.8 apg), Austin Williams (11.5 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.3 apg), Moses Flowers (10.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.2 spg), & Jared Kimbrough (9.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.0 spg).

Defensively, Hartford is allowing their opponents to average 76.2 ppg on 48.5% shooting from the field. The Hawks have a rebound margin of -4.0 and a turnover margin of -2.8.

The Appalachian State Mountaineers dropped to 3-4 on the season after being defeated by the Vermont Catamounts, 65-63, this past Wednesday. Appalachian State held 55-48 lead with just 8:10 left in regulation, however, the Mountaineers allowed Vermont to fight back into the game and win the game on a Ben Shungu game-winning three-pointer as time expired. Appalachian State shot 48.0% from the field & 43.5% from beyond the arc while allowing Vermont to shoot 43.1% from the field & 25.0% from beyond the arc. Appalachian State lost turnover battle by a 9-6 margin and pulled down just 28 rebounds in the loss. Leading the way for the Mountaineers was Adrian Delphi who had 22 points, 5 rebounds, & 2 steals.

Offensively, Appalachian State has been led by Adrian Delph (18.7 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.0 spg), Justin Forrest (9.9 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 2.0 apg), Michael Almonacy (9.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.9 apg), & Donovan Gregory (8.0 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.3 spg).

Defensively, Appalachian State is holding their opponents to an average of 61.9 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field.

The Hawks are 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 road games vs. a team with a winning home record, however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Mountaineers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a losing road record & 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS win.

Hartford is still in search for their first win, however, the Hawks have been for the most part competitive against some decent teams (Boston University & Campbell) and I think is a better defense team that what we’ve seen so far this season. Appalachian State is led by their defense, which comes into this game ranked 63rd in scoring defense, however, this isn’t a team that shoots the ball particularly well and has had trouble creating turnovers as they come into this game ranked just 327th in blocks per game & 310th in steals per game. Appalachian State is the better team here, however, as I expect this to be more of a low-scoring battle, I think Hartford will be able to do enough with the points to get us a cover. Good Luck!
