The Northwestern State Demons and the Houston Cougars meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Hofheinz Pavilion. The Demons are just 1-6 so far. Northwestern State is coming off a four-point loss to Stephen F. Austin. As for Houston, they’re 5-1 and took out Oregon in their last appearance. Northwestern State lost to Oklahoma and Tulsa in their first two games this year before picking up a win over Champion Christian. Since then it’s been losses to SMU, LA Tech, LA-Monroe and Stephen F. Austin in succession.

In the Stephen F. Austin game, the Demons hung around for the whole game but couldn’t get over the hump in a 72-68 loss. Northwestern State’s Kendal Coleman put up 14 points with eight rebounds to lead the team.

Over on the Houston side, they took a tough loss to Wisconsin 65-63 on November 23 as their only blemish so far. Otherwise the Cougars have beaten Hofstra, Rice, Virginia, Butler and Oregon in their six games this year.

In the matchup versus Oregon on Wednesday, the Cougars outscored the Ducks 41-19 in the first half and cruised to the 78-49 blowout win. Fabian White led the way on 15 points with seven rebounds and two assists for Houston.

The Cougars are 14-6 ATS in their last 20 home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall. Houston is 14-6 ATS in their last 20 as a home favorite.

Meanwhile, the Demons are 4-1 ATS in their last five Tuesday games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven as a road underdog. The over is 5-2 in NW State’s last seven road games.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Houston. The spread is going to be thick on this one pretty much everywhere, though. The Cougars put on a clinic against Oregon in their last game, shooting 51.7 percent from the field with 34 rebounds (11 offensive), 15 assets and 10 steals. It was a nice bounce-back from Houston’s sub-par effort versus Wisconsin.

As for the Demons, they’ve hit more than 68 points just twice so far; they’re simply not a great offensive team. There’s little chance they’ll be able to keep up in this one.
