The South Dakota Coyotes and the San Jose State Spartans meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Event Center Arena. South Dakota is 4-2 through six games and lost to Nebraska in their last appearance. As for San Jose State, they’re 2-3 so far. The Spartans beat Northern Colorado in their last game. South Dakota managed four wins in their first five. Outside of a blowout loss to Drake, the Coyotes beat Air Force, Southern U, Tennessee State and Presentation. Game six was a 13-point loss to Nebraska, however.
In the Nebraska matchup, South Dakota was outscored 43-35 in the first half and limped to an 83-70 result. Kruz Perrott-Hunt put up 19 points with six boards to lead the team, and Mason Archambault added 12 points with three assists.
Over on the San Jose State side, they got a 78-76 win over CSU Fullerton in their first game of the year. The Spartans fell to Stanford, Cal Baptist and Texas over the next trio before a win over Northern Colorado last week.
Last Tuesday versus Northern Colorado, the Spartans crawled back from a 37-33 deficit to eke out the 75-74 victory. Omari Moore topped the team on 28 points with five assists and three boards. Trey Smith added 10 points as well.
The Spartans are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 5-1 ATS in their last six at home. SJSU is 5-1 ATS in their last six at home versus a team with a losing road record.
Meanwhile, the Coyotes are 0-5 ATS in their last five road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall. The over is 43-21-1 in South Dakota’s last 65 road games.
PICK: I’m going to stay with South Dakota. The Coyotes ran into a pretty good Nebraska team in their last game and coughed up 18 turnovers. That said, South Dakota also shot 42.4 percent from the field, 48 percent from 3-point range and had a 40-35 rebounding advantage.
As for San Jose State, they get credit for a gritty win over Northern Colorado in their last game but they’ve been pretty uneven otherwise. Unless the Spartans are cooking on offense I don’t see them keeping up well enough to cover here.
