The Presbyterian Blue Hose and the Tennessee Volunteers meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Thompson-Boling Arena. Presbyterian is sitting on a three-game win streak and coming off a victory over Central Arkansas. As for the Volunteers, they’re 4-1 this year and beat Tennessee Tech in their last outing. Presbyterian started out the season at 2-2, taking wins over VMI and the Citadel while otherwise falling to Clemson and Cincinnati. Since then it’s been wins over VMI, New Orleans and Central Arkansas.
In Friday’s matchup against Central Arkansas, the Hose outscored the Bears 38-31 on the way to a 75-66 win. Presbyterian’s top scorer was Rayshon Harrison with 28 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Over on the Tennessee side, they got wins in their first two games over TN-Martin 90-62 and East Tennessee State 94-62. After a loss to Villanova 71-53, the Vols took out UNC 89-72 and Tennessee Tech 80-69 in their next pair.
On Friday against Tennessee Tech, the Volunteers were slow in the first half but came alive for a 46-34 advantage from there in an 80-69 win. Olivier Nkamhoua led the team on his 18 points, four rebounds and one assist. Kennedy Chandler added 15 points as well.
The Vols are 1-4 ATS in their last five at home and 0-4 ATS in their last four Tuesday games. Tennessee is 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Hose are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 6-1-1 ATS in their last eight overall. The under is 4-1 in Presbyterian’s last five overall.
PICK: I’m probably going to try Presbyterian in this one. Tennessee is coming off 50.8 percent from the field with 31 rebounds and 21 team assists against Tennessee Tech; some nice totals after a slow start. The stage is set for another victory here if the Vols keep it going.
Still, the Hose have put up some pretty decent offensive numbers in most of their games this year, with 68 or more points in four of seven outings. If Presbyterian gets going early I can see them keeping the pace.
