The Northwestern Wildcats and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons meet Tuesday in college basketball action from LJVM Coliseum. Northwestern is 5-1 so far this season and fresh off a win over Georgia. As for Wake Forest, they’re 6-1 this year and lost their first game to LSU in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Northwestern kicked off the year with four straight wins, taking out Eastern Illinois, High Point, New Orleans and Fairleigh Dickinson. After a 77-72 loss to Providence, the Wildcats bounced back with a win over Georgia in their last game.

In the Georgia matchup, Northwestern jumped out to a 43-23 advantage by halftime and cruised the rest of the way to a 78-62 victory. Boo Buie topped the team with his 22 points, six assists and two rebounds.

Over on the Wake Forest side, they got off to a nice start this year with six straight wins. After victories over William & Mary, Western Carolina, Charleston Southern, NC A&T, Kennesaw State and Oregon State, the Deacons fell to LSU.

In the Saturday loss to LSU, Wake Forest fell behind 31-21 after one half and didn’t get any better from there in a 75-61 loss. Daivien Williamson led the team on 20 points with three boards, and Jake LaRavia added 15 points with eight rebounds.

Wake Forest is 1-6 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss and 2-6 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss. The over is 5-1 in the Deacons’ last six overall.

Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 16-34-2 ATS in their last 52 after an ATS win. The under is 9-4 in Northwestern’s last 13 overall.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Northwestern here. We should have a pretty great matchup on our hands regardless, though. The Wildcats played well in their last outing, shooting 43.8 percent from the field with 38 rebounds and 20 assists in the win over Georgia.

As for Wake, they couldn’t find much success versus LSU in their last outing. The Deacons shot just 31 percent and had 22 turnovers. I like Wake to come back stronger here in a tight game most of the way. Should be a fun one.
