The Central Michigan Chippewas and the Xavier Musketeers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Cintas Center. Central Michigan is 1-5 so far this year and coming off a loss to Kentucky. Central Michigan lost their first two games of the year, falling to Missouri and DePaul. After a win over Eastern Illinois 62-61 on November 15, the Chippewas lost their next three games to Gonzaga, Bellarmine and Kentucky.
In the Kentucky game, Central Michigan fell way behind 51-25 after the first half and limped to an 85-57 blowout defeat. The only double-digit scorer on the team was Jermaine Jackson with 11 points and five assists.
Over on the Xavier side, they kicked off the year with a nice five-game win streak. The Musketeers beat Niagara, Kent State, Ohio State and Norfolk State before a loss to Iowa State. Xavier then eked out a win over Virginia Tech in their last game.
In the Hokies matchup, Xavier had a 35-27 lead at the break but had to hold on in an eventual 59-58 win. Nate Johnson did most of the work with 30 points and three rebounds. Jack Nunge added 14 boards and nine points.
Xavier is 5-2 ATS in their last seven at home and 2-6 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win. The Musketeers are 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games.
Meanwhile, the Chippewas are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS win. CMU is 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Wednesday games.
PICK: I’m probably going to stick with Xavier. The Musketeers have had a couple of tough games in their last pair, and they got the job done against Virginia Tech in their most recent game. Xavier put up 47.8 percent shooting from the floor with 30 rebounds and 13 assists in the win.
As for Central Michigan, they haven’t scored 70 points in any game so far this year so it’s been hard for them to keep up on the scoreboard. Barring a collapse, I don’t think Xavier will have too many issues here.
