Coastal Carolina vs Winthrop 12/4/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Winthrop Eagles and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers meet Saturday in college basketball action from HTC Center. Winthrop is 4-3 so far this year and beat Hartford in their last appearance. Winthrop managed wins in their first couple of games this year, but then hit a three-game losing streak versus Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Washington State. Since then it’s been wins over Washington and Hartford in the last pair. 

On Wednesday versus Hartford, the Eagles scored 42 points in the first half and 40 more from there during an 82-75 victory. Leading scorer Cory Hightower notched a double-double on 19 points, 13 rebounds and one assist in 33 minutes of work. 

Over on the Coastal Carolina side, they’ve alternated wins with losses through five games so far this year. The victories have come courtesy of Ferrum, Valparaiso and South Carolina. The losses were to UNC Wilmington and Toledo. 

In Wednesday’s matchup versus South Carolina, Coastal Carolina had a tiny one-point advantage at halftime. The Chanticleers went on a 44-21 run from there in an 80-56 win. Essam Mostafa topped the team with 23 points and 13 rebounds. 

The Chanticleers are 8-20 ATS in their last 28 after an ATS win and 1-4 ATS in the last five on Saturday. The under is 4-1 in Coastal’s last five overall. 

Meanwhile, the Eagles are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. Winthrop is 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. 

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Coastal in this one. The Chanticleers put up a solid overall effort against South Carolina in their last game—especially in the second half. Coastal Carolina shot 42.1 percent from the floor with 12 team assists and a 49-38 rebounding edge. It also didn’t hurt that the Gamecocks shot just 28.6 percent. 

As for Winthrop, they shot well in a win over Hartford that was a little more difficult than it should have been. That said, Winthrop’s had more good moments than bad so far this year and I think they’ll make some noise before Coastal pulls into a cover.
