The Oakland Golden Grizzlies and the IUPUI Jaguars meet Saturday in college basketball action from Indiana Farmers Coliseum. Oakland is 6-2 on the season thus far. The Grizzlies took out UIC in their last appearance. As for IUPUI, they’ve managed just one win this year and fell to Detroit in their most recent outing. Oakland began this season with a 2-2 run, falling to West Virginia and Alabama with wins over Oklahoma State and Toledo. Since then it’s been a 4-0 run with victories versus Vermont, Rice, Delaware and UIC.
In the UIC game, the Grizzlies posted a 41-29 edge in the first half and were able to hang on for the 81-77 result. Trey Townsend put up 22 points with six rebounds, and Jamal Cain doubled up on 19 points and 10 boards.
Over on the IUPUI side, they haven’t had much luck this year. The Jaguars have just one win versus Spalding so far. Otherwise it’s been losses to Butler, Evansville, Denver, Texas A&M-CC, UTSA and Detroit.
On Thursday versus Detroit, IUPUI had a miserable first half. The Jaguars went into the break with a 38-12 deficit and limped to a 69-45 loss. BJ Maxwell was the only double-digit scorer with 10 points and four rebounds.
The Jags are 1-4 ATS in their last five overall and 11-28-3 ATS in their last 42 Saturday games. The under is 6-0 in IUPUI’s last six overall.
Meanwhile, the Grizzlies are 6-2 ATS in their last eight overall and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 Saturday games. The over is 25-11 in Oakland’s last 36 overall.
PICK: I’m going with Oakland. The Grizzlies have had three close games in their last quartet; the good news is that all four of those were wins. Oakland has hit 76 or more points in three of those games—but allowed 73 or more points in three of four as well.
As for IUPUI, they haven’t scored more than 61 points all season so there’s not much chance of them keeping up if the Grizzlies get going on the scoreboard. It’s probably going to be tough to find a line on this one that isn’t super thick, but I’m sticking with Oakland.
