The Southern Miss Golden Eagles will travel to Banterra Center to take on the Southern Illinois Salukis this Saturday night in College Basketball action.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 4-4 on the season after being defeated by the South Alabama Jaguars, 85-55, this past Wednesday. Southern Miss had no answers on either end of the court for South Alabama and could not fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 45-24 margin. Southern Miss shot 38.2% from the field & 16.7% from beyond the arc while allowing South Alabama to shoot 56.7% from the field & 42.9% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Golden Eagles was Tyler Stevenson who had 18 points, 6 rebounds, & 1 steal.

On the season, Southern Miss is averaging 64.0 ppg on 42.4% shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles are averaging 4.6 three-pointers per game on 28.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Southern Miss has been led by Isaih Moore (13.9 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 1.5 apg), Tae Hardy (13.7 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.7 spg), Tyler Stevenson (12.4 ppg, 8.3 rpg), & Jaron Pierre Jr. (6.3 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.0 apg).

Defensively, Southern Miss is averaging 71.4 ppg on 42.0% shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles have a rebound margin of -0.9 and a turnover margin of -1.2.

The Southern Illinois Salukis won their 2nd straight game and improved to 4-3 on the season after defeating the Evansville Purple Aces, 54-52, this past Wednesday. Southern Illinois allowed Evansville to fight back from a 15-point halftime deficit to tie the game at 50-all late, however, the Salukis were able to come away with the victory after Marcus Domask hit a game-winning jumper with just :03 seconds left in regulation. Southern Illinois shot 50.0% from the field & 30.0% from beyond the arc while allowing Evansville to shoot 45.2% from the field & 38.9% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Salukis was Marcus Domask who had 22 points, 6 rebounds, & 2 assists.

On the season, Southern Illinois is averaging 61.9 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Salukis are averaging 6.3 three-pointers per game on 31.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Southern Illinois has been led by Lance Jones (18.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 1.3 apg, 2.2 spg), Marcus Domask (15.9 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.4 apg), Steven Verplancken Jr. (8.6 ppg, 2.9 rpg), & Ben Coupet Jr. (8.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.0 apg).

Defensively, Southern Illinois is holding their opponents to an average of 60.4 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Salukis have a rebound margin of 0.1 and a turnover margin of -1.0.

The Golden Eagles are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games overall & 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games. The Salukis are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games vs. a team with a losing road record & 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 Saturday games.

Southern Miss has been able to pick up some wins to start the season, however, this is still a team that has struggled on both ends of the court as the Golden Eagles come into this game ranked just 305th in scoring offense, 315th in 3P-FG%, & 235th in scoring defense. Southern Illinois has also struggled putting up points as they Salukis come into this game ranked just 326th in scoring offense, however, the defense has done a solid job of keeping opponents off the scoreboard as they Salukis currently rank t-48th in scoring defense.

Southern Miss has not looked good on the road this season, losing both games to TCU & South Alabama by 30+ points and as I think the Golden Eagles offense struggle to put up 50 points in this one, I think the Salukis will be able to do enough on the offensive end to cover this double-digit home spread. Good Luck!
