Florida vs Texas Southern 12/6/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Texas Southern Tigers and the Florida Gators meet Monday in college basketball action from O’Connell Center. Texas Southern is still looking for their first win of the year. The Tigers fell to Louisiana Tech in their last outing. As for the Gators, they’re 6-1 and coming off their first loss to Oklahoma. Texas Southern has been competitive in a few games so far this year, but no wins yet. The Tigers have fallen to Oregon, Saint Mary’s, Washington, Air Force, NC State, BYU and Louisiana Tech over their first seven outings. 

In the loss to LouisianaTech, Texas Southern was blown out in the first half 42-23 and couldn’t get any closer from there in an 87-60 blowout. Leading scorer John Walker put up 16 points with 10 boards and three assists. 

Over on the Florida side, they rolled to a 6-0 start this year. The wins came over Elon, Florida State, Milwaukee, California, Ohio State and Troy. In the Gators’ last outing they recorded their first loss of the year to Oklahoma. 

In the Sooners matchup, Florida hung around with a 36-37 first-half deficit but couldn’t gain any ground after the break in a 74-67 loss. Phlandrous Fleming led the way on 17 points, and Colin Castleton doubled up on 14 points and 11 boards. 

Florida is 5-0 ATS in their last five at home and 4-1 ATS in their last five as a favorite. The Gators are 4-1 ATS in their last five Monday games. 

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 5-1 ATS in their last six Monday games and 11-2 ATS in their last 13 overall. Texas Southern is 10-2 ATS in their last 12 road games. 

PICK: I’m going to stick with Florida. The Gators had a bad game against Oklahoma in their last outing, shooting just 16.7 percent (4-of-24) from 3-point range with a 34-33 rebounding deficit and 16 turnovers. Florida shot a decent 42.1 percent from the field, but couldn’t keep up with the Sooners’ pace. 

As for Texas Southern, they’ve had trouble scoring all year and are coming off 35 percent shooting in the LA Tech game. I like Florida to have a nice bounce-back game here, but I’m probably staying away due to the thick line.
