The Penn Quakers and the Saint Joseph’s Hawks meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Hagan Arena. Penn is just 3-8 so far this year and coming off a loss to Temple. As for the Hawks, they’re 4-4 on the season. St. Joseph’s lost to Villanova in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Penn began the year with a couple of losses, then took out Bucknell and Lafayette to even their record back up. The Quakers are just 1-6 since then however, falling to Utah State, Davidson, Towson, Arkansas, Villanova and Temple.

In the Temple game, the Quakers fell behind 39-27 at the break. Despite a 45-42 second-half advantage Penn lost 81-72. Jordan Dingle topped the team on 22 points, and Michael Wang added 21 points with eight rebounds.

Over on the Hawks’ side, they took out MD Eastern Shore and Mount St. Mary’s in their first two, then hit a three-game losing streak. St. Joseph’s would recover versus Georgetown, then beat Binghamton before the Villanova loss.

Back on Saturday versus Villanova, Saint Joseph’s scored just 22 points in the first half and 30 more from there in a tepid 81-52 loss. Jordan Hall led the way on 22 points with five assists, and both Ejike Obinna and Cameron Brown added 10 points apiece.

The Hawks are 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 6-13-1 ATS in their last 20 after a straight-up loss. The over is 16-7 in St. Joseph’s last 23 after an ATS loss.

Meanwhile, the Quakers are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 Wednesday games and 9-3 ATS in their lat 12 after a straight-up loss. Penn is 6-2 ATS in their last eight after an ATS loss.

PICK: I’m going with Saint Joseph’s. The Hawks realistically weren’t going to hang with Villanova in their last game, and they didn’t. Saint Joseph’s shot 36.2 percent from the field and were out-rebounded 36-28. That said, the Hawks have played pretty well lately against comparable opponents.

As for Penn, they’re coming off a pretty competitive game against Temple but they allowed a truckload of points. The Quakers have given up 71 or more in each of their last four, so if St. Joseph’s gets off to a good start here I think they’ll be fine.
