The Hofstra Pride and the Stony Brook Seawolves meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Island Federal Credit Union Arena. Hofstra enters this one at 5-4 on the year. The Pride are coming off a win over Bucknell. As for Stony Brook, they’re 3-4 this season and coming off a loss to Wagner. Hofstra started out on an ugly 1-4 run this year with losses to Houston, Iona, Maryland and Richmond. Since then however, it’s been four straight wins over Molloy, Detroit Mercy, Princeton and Bucknell for the Pride.

In the Saturday matchup versus Bucknell, Hofstra scored 39 points in the first half and 49 more from there in an 88-69 win. Leading the way for the Pride was Aaron Estrada with 24 points, six assists and four rebounds.

Over on the Stony Brook side, their year began on a 1-3 run that featured losses to George Mason, Kentucky and Fairfield. After wins over Yale and American, the Seawolves lost their last game to Wagner.

In the Wagner game, Stony Brook had a seven-point deficit heading into halftime and didn’t get any closer in a 78-49 blowout loss. The Seawolves’ only double-digit scorer was Jahlil Jenkins with 12 points, one rebound and two assists.

The Seawolves are 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 at home and 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall. Stony Brook is 1-4 ATS in their last five after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Pride are 34-16-1 ATS in their last 51 road games and 4-1 ATS in the last five overall. Hofstra is 1-4 ATS in their last five Wednesday games.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Hofstra in this one. The Pride have looked pretty good over their last four games, scoring 81 or more points in each outing. In the Saturday game Hofstra shot a nice 51.5 percent with 38 rebounds and 17 team assists on the way to the win.

As for Stony Brook, they shot a cold 30.9 percent against Wagner in their last game. That said the Seawolves have put up some decent points totals so far. I like a better performance from Stony Brook here in an eventual Hofstra cover.
