Arizona State vs Grand Canyon 12/9/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Grand Canyon Antelopes and the Arizona State Sun Devils meet Thursday in college basketball action from ASU Wells Fargo Arena. Grand Canyon is 8-1 so far this year. The Antelopes beat MS Valley State in their last outing. As for Arizona State, they’re 3-6 on the season and coming off a win over Oregon. Grand Canyon won their first three games out of the gate this year before a November 22 loss to Wyoming. Since then the Antelopes have beaten Life Pacific, Pepperdine, LMU, UTSA and MS Valley State to move to 8-1 on the season. 

In the MS Valley State game, the Antelopes held the Devils to just 16 first-half points. Grand Canyon scored 53 more from there in an eventual 91-44 blowout. Jovan Blacksher, Holland Woods, Taeshon Cherry and Walter Ellis each scored 11 points. 

Over on the Arizona State side, they managed to go 2-1 over their first three but then hit a losing streak versus San Diego State, Baylor, Syracuse, Loyola and Washington State. The Sun Devils stopped the bleeding with a win over Oregon on Sunday. 

In the Oregon matchup, the Sun Devils were down by one point at halftime and eventually fought to force overtime. In the extra period Arizona State outscored the Ducks 9-7 for a 69-67 win. Leading the way was DJ Horne with 23 points and six rebounds. 

The Sun Devils are 1-7 ATS in their last eight Thursday games and 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 at home. Arizona State is 16-37-2 ATS in their last 55 overall.
Meanwhile, the Antelopes are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four Thursday games and 22-8 ATS in the last 30 overall. Grand Canyon is 5-2 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. 

PICK: I’m sticking with Grand Canyon. The Antelopes are coming off a pretty easy matchup, shooting 48.6 percent from the field with 57 rebounds. Grand Canyon has hit 74 or more points in each of their last three games, and they’re on a nice roll right now. 

As for Arizona State, they notched a good effort themselves against Oregon in their last outing with 46.6 percent shooting and 35 boards. The Sun Devils have been below 70 points in each of their last three however (with just 29 against Washington State) so I don’t know that they’ve got the gas to stay in front significantly here.
