The Idaho Vandals and the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners meet Saturday in college basketball action from Icardo Center. Idaho is sitting at 2-7 this year and coming off a win over South Dakota State. As for CSU Bakersfield, they’re 3-2 so far. The Roadrunners beat Boise State in their last outing. Idaho won just one of their first eight games (versus George Fox) this year. Otherwise it was losses to LBSU, Fresno State, Washington State, Utah Valley, Cal Poly, North Dakota State and Southern Utah. The Vandals finally got another win on Wednesday versus South Dakota State.
In the Wednesday matchup versus the Jackrabbits, the Vandals scored 43 points in the first half and hit a 55-43 run in the second on the way to a nice 98-84 win. Leading scorer Mikey Dixon put up 35 points with eight assists and five rebounds.
Over on the CSU Bakersfield side, they lost to UCLA in their opener, then bounced back with a victory over Life Pacific. The Roadrunners went 2-1 in their next three, falling to Northern Arizona before wins over Colorado College and Boise State.
In the Boise State matchup back on November 26, the Roadrunners nursed a 22-19 lead at halftime and were able to hold off the Broncos from there in a 46-39 win. Kaleb Higgins was the only double-digit team scorer with 11 points and two boards.
The Roadrunners are 8-19-1 ATS in their last 28 at home and 1-5 ATS in their last six after an ATS win. CSUB is 1-4 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Vandals are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games and 4-0 ATS in the last four overall. Idaho is 5-1 ATS in the last six after an ATS win.
PICK: I’m going to stick with Idaho. I’m probably not going near this one, though; there’s not much to like. In any case, the Vandals have put up some solid points totals in their last three games, with 73 or more points in each. Trouble is, Idaho has also given up 81 or more points in each of their last three.
As for CSU Bakersfield, they’ve been a mixed bag so far this year but did get a solid victory against a very out-of-sorts Boise State team in their last game. A lot of different things could happen in this one; I’m going to try Idaho but it’s probably not worth messing with.
