The Pacific Tigers and the San Jose State Spartans meet Saturday in college basketball action from Provident Credit Union Event Center. Pacific is currently 4-5 on the year. The Tigers lost to CSU-Fullerton in their last game. As for the Spartans, they’re 4-4 so far and coming off a loss to Pepperdine. Pacific stumbled out of the gate at 2-3 this year, losing to Northern Colorado, Hawaii and UTEP in that stretch. The Tigers have since gone 2-2 with wins over Chicago State and UAPB before losses to UC Davis and CSU Fullerton.

In the CSU Fullerton game, the Tigers limped out to a 23-point first half in an eventual 66-57 defeat. Leading scorer Alphonso Anderson put up 18 points with four boards, four steals and two assists. Khaleb Wilson-Rouse added 12 points as well.

Over on the San Jose State side, they went 1-3 over their first four games, falling to Stanford, Cal Baptist and Texas. After wins over Northern Colorado, South Dakota and North Dakota, the Spartans lost to Pepperdine.

The Spartans got off to a bad start versus Pepperdine and fell behind 46-28 after the first half. The end result was an 82-69 loss. Tops in scoring for the team were Trey Smith and Alvaro Cardenas Torre, each with 14 points and three assists.

The Spartans are 5-0 ATS in their last five at home and 6-2 ATS in the last eight overall. San Jose State is 4-0 ATS in their last four after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, the Tigers are 0-5 ATS in their last five road games and 1-7 ATS in their last eight overall. The per is 4-1-1 in Pacific’s last six Saturday games.

PICK: I’m going to try Pacific. Both these teams are in dire need of bounce-back games, though. The Tigers shot a reasonable 42.3 percent against CSUF in their last outing, but were out-rebounded 35-25 and had just two offensive boards. As for San Jose State, they got better in the second half against Pepperdine but still shot a tepid 38.2 percent and were out-rebounded 50-37. This should be a better matchup for both teams if all goes well, but I still like the Tigers on a potential cover.
