The St. Bonaventure Bonnies and the UConn Huskies meet Saturday in college basketball action from Prudential Center. St. Bonaventure is 8-1 on the year and fresh off a win over Loyola-MD. As for the Huskies, they sit at 8-2 so far. UConn lost to West Virginia in their last outing. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

St. Bonaventure started off the year with five straight wins over Siena, Canisius, Boise State, Clemson and Marquette. After a loss to Northern Iowa, the Bonnies picked it up with wins over Coppin State, Buffalo and Loyola-MD.

In the matchup versus Loyola-MD, the Bonnies were down 41-38 at the break but surged with 46 points from there in an 84-71 win. Leading the way were Jalen Adaway and Jaren Holmes, each with 22 points and a combined nine rebounds.

Over on the UConn side, they won their first five this year as well, taking out Central CT State, Coppin State, LIU, Binghamton and Auburn before a loss to Michigan State. The Huskies then beat VCU, MD Eastern Shore and Grambling State prior to the West Virginia loss.

In the Wednesday game versus West Virginia, the Huskies posted 29 points in the first half and just 24 more from there in a 56-53 defeat. Leading scorer Isaiah Whaley put up 15 points with three boards, and Akok Akok hauled in 10 rebounds.

The Huskies are 1-4 ATS in their last five neutral-site games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. The over is 5-2 in UConn’s last seven overall.

Meanwhile, the Bonnies are 0-4 ATS in their last four overall and 1-4 ATS in their last five Saturday games. The under is 20-8 in St. Bonaventure’s last 28 overall.

PICK: I’m going to stick with St. Bonaventure. We should have a pretty good matchup on our hands here, though. The Bonnies shot a scorching 60 percent from the field with 29 rebounds and 23 team assists in their last game versus Loyola-MD. St. Bonaventure has scored well overall this year, with 67 or more points in each outing.

As for UConn, they shot horribly from 3-point range (3-for-21; 14 percent) against West Virginia, or else they may have pulled that game out. It was a down offensive effort for the Huskies, and though I like a better outcome here I think the Bonnies will cover.
